Example

We will model the process

Example AR1 process

#Load the forecast package
library(forecast)

#Generate an AR1 process of length n (from Cowpertwait & Meltcalfe)
# Set up variables
set.seed(1234)
n <- 1000
x <- matrix(0,1000,1)
w <- rnorm(n)

# loop to create x
for (t in 2:n) x[t] <- 0.7 * x[t-1] + w[t]
plot(x,type='l')

Example Arima Process

We will fit an Arima model with autoregressive order 1, 0 degrees of differencing, and an MA order of 0.

#Fit an AR1 model using Arima
fit <- Arima(x, order = c(1, 0, 0))
