    Uri defaultSoundUri = RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_NOTIFICATION);
    NotificationCompat.Builder notificationBuilder =
            new NotificationCompat.Builder(context)
                    .setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_navigation_favorites) //just dummy icon
                    .setContent(remoteViews) // here we apply our view
                    .setAutoCancel(true)
                    .setContentIntent(pendingIntent)
                    .setPriority(NotificationCompat.PRIORITY_DEFAULT);

    final Notification notification = notificationBuilder.build();

    if (android.os.Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= 16) {
        notification.bigContentView = remoteViews;

    NotificationManager notificationManager =

And then define a layout inside your layouts folder:
